Last Friday, Jenny Elphick, the Writebol’s and Bethany Fankhauser visited Faith Academy, one of the ECOL (Evangelical Church of Liberia) village schools, to check up on the teachers and students…
We went into the classrooms and were greeted by bright faces and the sweet voices of the students saying in unison, “Welcome. How are you?” Jenny then tested the children on their math and phonics ability and progress. Following the classroom visits, we brought in new books and pencils and gave them to the children.
In Liberia, education is viewed as a great privilege and it is a beautiful thing seeing the upcoming generation learning to read and write; while doing so joyfully, with a smile on their face. The visit was part of the SIM Christian Education and Teacher Training Project that Jenny Elphick is running.
